Obituary of Arlan Scott Hendrix

Scott Hendrix, age 45, of Colony, Kansas passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015. Arlan Scott Hendrix was the youngest of four children born to Ray and Claire (Phillips) Hendrix. Scott was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 17, 1970. He grew up in Stillwell, Kansas, where he attended Blue Valley schools, graduating from Blue Valley High School in 1988. His capacity to love and care for others was observed early on in life when his fifth grade teacher observed his unusual and extraordinary level of care while completing a first aid class. Following high school Scott attended Mid-America Nazarene College where he received a degree in Religion. A few short years later, Scott became a fully certified paramedic with Johnson County Med-Act. He was also an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene and combined his loving and caring qualities by serving as a chaplain with Johnson County Med-Act for several years. After moving to Colony, Kansas Scott continued his service in the emergency medical profession with St. Luke Health System in Garnett, Kansas and Allen County EMS. He also served as a first responder with the Colony Fire Department. He devoted his life to service and caring for others. Scott married his sweetheart, Michelle Comstock, on May 18, 1991. They were blessed with five children. Scott enjoyed spending time with his family and being involved in the activities of the children, especially coaching various sports that the boys played. He was an avid sportsman, with a special fondness for football. In addition to this love of sports, Scott especially loved all things country and spending time on their land with the horses. He had a wonderful sense of humor and lit up a room with his smile and laughter. Bringing others joy through humor was truly one of his greatest gifts. The love he displayed for his family and for others was a direct result of the love he received from his Heavenly Father; a love that flowed so beautifully and freely onto others. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marissa in 1996; and his father, Ray Hendrix. Scott is survived by his wife, Michelle and children, Arlynna (Arli), Jordan, Austin and Jamison of Colony, mother, Claire Hendrix, of Stilwell, two brothers, Steve Hendrix and wife Sherri of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Mike Hendrix and wife Kim of Overland Park, Kansas; sister, Christy Thornton and husband Jim of Tulsa, Oklahoma; parents-in-law John and Karen Comstock; sister-in-law Kim Smith and husband Jason; brother-in-law John Comstock and wife Amy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Scott's life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at the Garnett Church of the Nazarene in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Colony Cemetery in Colony, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scott Hendrix Memorial Fund and left in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
