Obituary of Jane T. Feuerborn

Jane T. Feuerborn, age 77, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Golden Heights in Garnett. She was born on April 2, 1937, in Garnett, Kansas, the first of four children born to Reuben and Marie (Setter) Feuerborn. Jane attended Longfellow School in Garnett until Holy Angels Catholic School opened in 1947. She graduated from Garnett High School in 1955 and then from St. Mary's College in Leavenworth in 1959. She later obtained her Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling from Emporia State University. Her first teaching position was at St. Agnes grade school in Roeland Park during the 1959-60 school year. Jane delighted in telling that she had 40 second grade students that year. The 1960-61 school year was the beginning of her 40 plus year journey teaching high school. She taught at Ottawa High School for many years before teaching at Garnett High School. Jane retired multiple times, but always returned to teaching. English, Speech, Drama, and Debate were classes she taught prior to being a Guidance Counselor. She was very active with the school drama activities, directing many plays and assisting with many musicals in both Ottawa and Garnett. Jane's post retirement positions included teaching at the Ottawa and Garnett Alternative Schools, St. Rose 7-8th grade, and serving as editor of The Anderson County Advocate. Jane grew up with many cousins, who were her first friends and remained an important part of her life. She was a pillar in the lives of her nieces and nephews. As the older sister, she spent a lifetime providing guidance to her younger siblings and their families. Jane was a lifetime, die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox. Through her team's lean decades she endured heartache from their losses and the accompanying torment from her family. In her younger years, she enjoyed plays (Broadway and touring), movies, and travel. In her later years, books, animals, writing and flowers were some of her interests. Jane was an excellent cook and loved to share a new dish with her family. Jane rarely met a stranger; making friends came easily to her. Even as she faced illness, she and her doctor, Suman Kambhampati, MD, quickly became friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Marie Feuerborn. Jane is survived by her brothers and sister, Dudley and Carol Ann Feuerborn, Lucille and Richard Holderman, Bill and Lynda Feuerborn; nine nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery. The family will greet friends following a 6:30 PM prayer service, Friday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. Memorial contributions may be made to the USD 365 Endowment Fund or to the Holy Angels Church Building Fund. Condolences to the family may be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
