Obituary of Wendell Marvin Thompson
Wendell Marvin Thompson, age 75, of Colony, Kansas died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Harry Hynes Hospice Service at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.
Wendell was born on February 6, 1933, at Selma, Kansas, the son of John Finley Thompson and Eula Ruth (Blunt) Thompson. He graduated from the Kincaid High School in 1951. Following high school he served in the U.S. Army for two years. On July 29, 1956 Wendell married Karen Brekke in Phoenix, Arizona. Two children were born to this union. They returned to the Kincaid area where he was a dairy farmer. He worked at the Kincaid elevator following his retirement from the dairy. In 1985 they moved to Colony. Wendell was a member of the Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, crafts, and RVing. In 2006 Wendell and Karen became full time RVers. They were gate hosts at Lake Perry in the summer months and spent winters in Mission, Texas.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Karen Thompson, of the home; son, Kendall Thompson and wife Carol of Yates Center, Kansas; daughter Debra Colgin and husband David of Moran, Kansas; four grandchildren, Chris Colgin, Aaron Colgin, Kaylan Colgin, Bryce Heckert; one great grandchild, Kaden Heckert; and brother Howard Thompson and wife Leila of Garnett, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2008, at the Kincaid Selma United Methodist Church in Kincaid, Kansas. Family will greet friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
