Obituary of Jerry Kent

M. Jerry Kent, age 79 of Garnett, Kansas, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, Kansas. He was born July 5, 1928 at Garnett, Kansas, the son of Curtis Homer and Ruby Visalia (Wilson) Kent. He was a lifetime resident of Garnett, graduating from Garnett High School with the Class of 1946. Jerry married Rosa Lee Hobart on June 8, 1947 at Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children. Jerrys passing coincided with their 61st wedding anniversary. Jerrys working days began with a paper route, and selling the Saturday Evening Post as a boy, later delivering milk from a horse and wagon. He went on to work for his father in his drilling business. Jerry purchased his fathers drilling rig and continued as a drilling contractor in the area oil and gas fields until 1990. Jerry continued to operate his oil lease until 2007. He was a member of the Garnett United Methodist Church. Jerry enjoyed traveling, reading and history. He particularly enjoyed his times visiting his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Ruby Kent; one son, Vince Kent in 2000; two brothers, George Kent and Homer Kent; and three sisters, Bonnie Mae, infant; Mary Jean Adams, and Ruth Brown. Jerry is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Rosa Lee Kent, of the home; two daughters, Deborah Miller and husband Raymond of Paola, Kansas; Jeree Burnett and husband Terry of Overbrook, Kansas; one daughter-in-law, Carol Kent of Garnett, Kansas; two brothers, Charles Kent of Joplin, Missouri; and James Kent of Hoyt, Kansas; and three sisters, Roannah McDonald of Garnett, Kansas; Nina Brown of Waverly, Kansas; and Helen Folk of ____, Washington; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Garnett United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at the Garnett Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Garnett United Methodist Church.
