Obituary of Jerrold Don Fagg

Jerrold Don Fagg, age 73, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on April 5, 2008 at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett. He was born July 9, 1934, on a farm near Welda, Kansas, the son of Herbert Bryant and Oma Leone (Lee) Fagg. He attended High Point School and Garnett High School, graduating with the Class of 1952. After high school, Jerry followed the wheat harvest and returned home to marry his childhood sweetheart, Mary Ellen Tomberlin. They were married June 23, 1953. This union was blessed with five sons, Jerrold, Ross, Daniel, Scott and Dale. Soon after the death of their oldest son Jerrold in 1976, Mary lost her battle with diabetes and passed away. Jerry then married Mary A. (Cash) Barnes on February 14, 1977 at Garnett, Kansas. From this union, he acquired three stepchildren, Nickie, Andy and Laura. In the early 1960s, Jerry was mayor of the City of Greeley. For many years, he owned and operated Jerrys TV Sales and Service, which he began in Greeley with Bob Marmon, then moved to downtown Garnett in 1965. A fire in 1975 forced the business to close. Jerry continued in other business ventures until he re-opened his television repair business in 1978. He sold the business in 1984 to Tony Wolken, who still operates The TV Shoppe. Jerry played several stringed instruments and made many good friends through his love of playing bluegrass music. He and Mary enjoyed traveling to bluegrass festivals and camping, gathering with friends for occasional jam sessions, and hosting their own annual bluegrass weekend campout at their farm. On June 21, 1970, Jerry was baptized as a Christian into the membership of the First Baptist Church in Garnett and remained an active member until the time of his death. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ellen Fagg; two sons, Jerrold Fagg and Dale Fagg; and a brother, Jimmy Fagg and his wife Carrie; a sister, Sally Marmon; and a brother-in-law, Leon Webb.
