Obituary of Lawrence Gilliland
Lawrence Gilliland, age 89, of Lone Elm, Kansas, died on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at St. Luke's South Hospital, Overland Park, Kansas.
Lawrence was born on June 2, 1919, in Colony, Kansas, the son of Joe and Edith (Byfield) Gilliland. He attended country schools in the Colony area, having perfect attendance all eight years.
He was united in marriage to Helen Marie Moore on May 10, 1940, at Kincaid, Kansas.
Lawrence was a farmer and later ran a maintainer for the Anderson County road department from 1973 to 1984. He was a member of the Kincaid Baptist Church, and the Kincaid Lions Club for over 50 years. He also served as announcer for the Kincaid Fair parade. He loved gardening and the time he spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Gilliland on November 5, 1991; three brothers, Earl Gilliland, Roy Gilliland, and Bob Gilliland; four sisters, Arvilla Helms, Wilma McGhee, Lillie Dickerson, and Helen Norman Anderson.
Lawrence is survived by one son, Rollin Gilliland and wife Margaret of Olathe, Kansas; one daughter, Juanita Williams and husband, Harold J. of LeRoy, Kansas; one brother, Lee Gilliland and wife Dorothy of Kansas City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Mike and Danny Williams of Mineral, Virginia; and his special friend, Lola Margaret Pinneo of Garnett, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, Kansas, with burial to follow at the Lone Elm Cemetery in Lone Elm, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kincaid Fair Association or to the Kincaid Lions Club.
