Obituary of Cecil Weems

Cecil Leon Weems, age 88, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at his home. He was born August 2, 1923 at Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the son of George Walter and Louella Belle (Pinkley) Weems. Cecil served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Dorothy Annabelle Smith and this union was blessed with six children. She preceded him in death. He then married Luella Katherine Brown on September 20, 1965 in Miami, Oklahoma, and this union was blessed with two children. Cecil enjoyed hunting, restoring old cars and trucks, and taking road trips on his motorcycle. Cecil was happiest when he was with his family. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, George and Louella Belle Weems; two brothers, Foster and Verlen; four sisters, Hazel, Virginia, Alta, and Agnes; daughter, Cathie Jasper; and one grandson, Shawn Stipp. He is survived by his wife, Lu Weems, of the home; five sons, Ron Weems and wife Karen of Ottawa, Kansas; Merle Weems and wife Joyce of Claremore, Oklahoma; Verle Weems and wife Yvonne of Lawrence, Kansas; Richard Weems and wife Shirley of Wellsville, Kansas; and Eric Weems of Garnett, Kansas; two daughters, Pattie Brown of Topeka, Kansas; Cecilie Stipp and husband Jim of Thayer, Kansas; and one step-daughter, Lu-Ann Woodard of Parker, Kansas; one brother, McKinley Weems and wife Lola of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; one son-in-law, Jerry Jasper of Garnett, Kansas; 24 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. The family will be present to greet friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Mercy Hospital.
