Obituary of Ambrose L. Scheckel
Ambrose L. Scheckel, age 80, of Richmond, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at his home.
He was born on January 13, 1932, at Richmond, Kansas, the son of William and Mary (Wolken) Scheckel. Ambrose grew up in the Richmond and Greeley areas, attending the country schools Silverdale and Star before moving to Greeley where he completed the 8th grade at St. John's.
Ambrose was united in marriage to Nell Marie Hermesmeyer on November 7, 1955, at Ottawa, Kansas. This union was blessed with eleven children. She preceded him in death on December 29, 1990.
He married Maxine Culp on July 11, 1992, at Scipio, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2006.
Ambrose was a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Richmond, Kansas. His love of the Church was followed by that of his farming. Ambrose was a lifetime farmer and stockman, working until November 2011 when his health would no longer allow. He was a steward of the land and believed in leaving the dirt better than he found it. Ambrose also enjoyed his times with his grandchildren.
Ambrose is survived by six sons, Bernard Scheckel of Richmond, Kansas; Lynard Scheckel of Princeton, Kansas; Gerald Scheckel and wife Leslie of Richmond, Kansas; Greg Scheckel and wife Carrie of Lone Elm, Kansas; Philip Scheckel of Garnett, Kansas; David Scheckel and wife Angela of Richmond, Kansas; five daughters, Rosemarie Wonnell and husband Charles of Richmond, Kansas; MaryCarol Hermreck of Garnett, Kansas; Germaine Olsen of Aliceville, Kansas; Carmel Halstead and husband Eddie of Waldorf, Maryland; Michele Lutz and husband Darin of Garnett, Kansas; twenty-nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren; one brother Lavern Scheckel and wife Annabelle of Garnett, Kansas; four sisters, Bernice Peterson and husband Chuck of Parker, Kansas; Mildred Schommer of Iola, Kansas; Elsie Kratzberg of Greeley, Kansas; Eva Vinton and husband Rick of Lebanon, Missouri.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 11, 2012, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scipio, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery. The family will greet friends following a Rosary and Wake Service at 7:00 PM, Friday evening at St. Boniface Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Cemetery, and left in care of the funeral home.
