Obituary of Mary Jane Holloway

Mary Jane Holloway, age 75, of Lone Elm, Kansas, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Moran Manor, Moran, Kansas. She was born March 30, 1933 at Iola, Kansas, the daughter of Oscar and Irene (Maddox) New. Mary Jane graduated from the Colony High School and graduated with her nursing degree as a Registered Nurse in 1952 from Mercy Nursing School in Fort Scott. She worked as a registered nurse for over 50 years and was always available to provide medical assistance to family members, friends and neighbors. Mary Jane worked at the Garnett Hospital, before working in Iola nursing homes before becoming Director of Nursing at Moran Manor from 1980 to 2007. She served on the Kincaid Fair Board and the South East mental health board and the local election board, also serving on nursing boards at Countryside Estates, Arkhaven, and Pinecrest. She also taught C.N.A. courses at Allen County Community College. Mary Jane was a 4-H Leader for over 25 years, involved in Easter Star, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and several community clubs. She loved her gardening, canning and especially enjoyed making jelly, all of which netted her numerous awards and ribbons at county fairs. She married Neil Holloway on November 15, 1953 in Iola, Kansas. This union was blessed with five children. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Irene New and one grandson, Lance Holloway, and one brother, Charles New. She is survived by her husband Neil Holloway, of the home; four sons, Larry Holloway of Osage City, Kansas; Garry Holloway of Lone Elm, Kansas; Donald Holloway of Spring Hill, Kansas; Duane Holloway of Lexington, North Carolina; one daughter, Terri Holloway of Shawnee, Kansas; two sisters, Darlene Olson of Garnett, Kansas and Thelma Culler of Colony, Kansas and two brothers, Irving New and William New both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, with burial to follow at the Lone Elm Cemetery, Lone Elm, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorial may be made to the Lone Elm Community Building Maintenance Fund.
