Obituary of James P Souders

James Patrick Souders, age 80, of Centerville, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at his home.

 

He was born March 17, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Harley H. and Mabel (Duffels) Souders.  Jim graduated in 1955 from Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Missouri and from Rockhurst College in 1959.  He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1955 and retired as Lt. Col., in 1979.  Jim served in Vietnam earning a Bronze Star with Combat “V”, a Combat Action Ribbon, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.  From 1979 through 1996, he was the Executive Director of ARMA International. 

 

Jim married Marianne Geier in 1960, this union was blessed with four children.  They later divorced.

He married Linda (Kossow) on February 11, 2002, in Olathe, Kansas.

 

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially the hunting and shooting in the company of his bird dogs.

 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Mabel Souders; and one brother, Robert Souders.

 

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Souders, of the home; his four children, Suzanne Baldwin and husband Phil of Fairway, Kansas; Andrew Souders and wife Laurie of Gravois Mills, Missouri; Matthew Souders and wife Julie of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and Christopher Souders and wife Shan of Lawrence, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Carri, Sam, Jeremy, Jason, Caleb, Marcus, Connor, and Dwight; three great grandchildren, Logan, Milli, and Evelyn. 

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett, with burial following at the Centerville Cemetery, Centerville, Kansas. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Angels Church, Garnett, Kansas or to The University of Kansas Cancer Center, 2650 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Westwood, KS  66205-2003, or to the Allen County Regional Hospice, 826 E. Madison, Iola, KS  66749.
