Obituary of Wayne Marlin Mitchell
Wayne Marlin Mitchell, 65, of Osawatomie, Kansas passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, September 15, 2017 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
He was born April 30, 1952 in Chanute, Kansas to Elvyn Ellis and Anna Delphine (Daniels) Mitchell. He grew up at La Harpe, Kansas and graduated from Iola High School in 1970. He served in the Air Force, Kansas Army National Guard, and the U.S. Navy, totaling 21 years of service to his country. He served through various conflicts around the world, and retired in 1991. He worked as an investigator in Washington, D.C., and then for the postal service in human resources in Richmond, Virginia, until he retired.
Wayne enjoyed fishing, camping, antiquing, collecting firearms, and spending time with his family. He was Sr. Vice Commander of Tall City VFW Post #7208, 2nd Vice Commander of Tall City American Legion Post #119, and was a member of American Legion Post #15 in Iola, and the United Methodist Church in Osawatomie.
He is survived by brothers, Loren Mitchell and wife, Bobbie, of Iola, and Carl Lee Mitchell of Welda, Kansas, sisters, Theda Pentlin of Wellsville, Kansas, and Linda Simpson of Osawatomie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Melvyn Mitchell and Thomas H. Mitchell.
His funeral service will be Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola. Visitation will be the evening prior from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., also at the funeral home. Contributions in his memory are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation.
