Obituary of Larry F Westerman

Larry F. Westerman, 73 of Iola passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola. Larry was born July 27, 1943 in Iola, the middle child of seven born to Bernard and Anna (Link) Westerman. He grew up in Piqua, and graduated from Iola High School in 1961. He lived in Little River, KS and worked for a grain company. He returned to Iola and worked for a time at a grain elevator. He later served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. He attended one year at Allen County Community College. He married Cheryl Badders in 1970 at St. Martin's Church in Piqua. They made their home in Iola and raised their two daughters. He worked for Gates Rubber in Iola for 27 years before retiring in 2006. He was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed hunting deer, playing cards, shooting pool, and drinking coffee with the guys at Jump Start in Iola. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs games, KU basketball, and K-State football. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He will always be known for his wit and great sense of humor, and will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Eugene Westerman and a sister Marlene Sharp. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of the home, children Trina Westerman of Iola, April Russell and husband John of Parsons, grandsons Ty, Carson and Jase Russell, and a great grandson Waylon Russell; siblings Dorothy Konen and husband Jerry of Little River, KS, Alvin Westerman of Iola, Linda Sandy and husband Chuck of Lenexa, KS, and Daryl Westerman and wife Judy of Piqua; and numerous nieces and nephews. The parish Rosary will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 3rd, with the Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:30 A.M., both at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday the 2nd at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. A private inurnment ceremony will be held in St. Martin's Cemetery at Piqua at a later date.
