Obituary of Vernon Kyle
Vernon D. Kyle, age 55, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at his home in Garnett.
He was born on September 24, 1955, in Garnett, the son of Chester and Edna (Scates) Kyle. Vernon later moved to Moran, Kansas where he graduated from Moran High School in 1973. He joined the US Army 82nd Airborne division after graduation and was sent to Viet Nam in 1974. Following Viet Nam he was stationed in Germany, where he traveled Europe extensively. After four years of service, he re-enlisted into the US Army Veterinary Corps as an Army Food Inspector. He received his USDA certification in Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, and was stationed in Ft. Ord, but based in an outpost in San Diego, California. He inspected food at MCRD and 32nd street naval base.
He met Peggy Miller and they married on May 7, 1977 at Cabrillo National Monument and Point Loma Lighthouse, San Diego, California. This union was blessed with two children. They lived in Bonita, California until their discharge from the Army in November 1979, when, they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to their own home. Both of Vernon's children were born in Tulsa. Vernon attended college and became certified as a journeyman welder and stationary engineer specializing in high pressure systems, and stainless steel welding (MIG, TIG, FCAW). He operated and maintained stationary engines, boilers, or other mechanical equipment to provide utilities for buildings or industrial processes. He also had a background in HVAC.
Vernon decided to move back to Garnett in the early 1990's to help his mother during his father's illness. He worked in the USD #365 maintenance department until 2007 when his health no longer permitted him to work. Vernon was a "Man of Action", his family and friends will never forget his acts of courage, generosity, and his sense of humor and adventure.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by two children, Jamie Lynn and her husband Michael and son, Mathew Mwongela, Overland Park, Kansas and Jesse (Kyle) Blumhagen of Wichita, Kansas. His brother and sister; James Allen Kyle and wife, Betty of Garnett, Aletha May McTheeney of Ft. Scott, Kansas; cousin Alice Barnett and husband, Ron of Garnett; mother of his children, Peggy Blumhagen of Lawrence, Kansas; and his caretaker for the last three years, Alicia Jones; and his nieces and nephews.
