Vernon you are greatly missed!
Jamie and Jesse-I can't imagine how hard it must be for you to lose your Dad when you are so young. I pray that God will Father you now, and you will come to understand that Vernon is part of those who will cheer you on in your journey to know God and to be faithful to Him. Vernon loved you so much! You are his pride and joy!
Jim and Betty-thanks for your care for Vernon and the great party at thanksgiving last year...his favorite holiday.
Aletha-wish we could have warned you so you could have been here. We just didn't know in time. Big Hug!
Alicia-thanks for being there for so long to help him. You are his daughter in heart. I would be honored to be a mom to you. Let spend time together!
To all Vernon's neighbors...he really cared about you!
To all of Anderson County School District that knew Vernon...he loved being with you so much! Mt Ida and everyone there had a very special place in his heart! I heard about you when we lived in Maryland!
I am honored to have known Vernon both as his wife, the mother of his children, and as his friend. He opened his heart to all of us and made a way for us to join him here in Kansas. It has been a good choice for us as a family to get to know him again. He is missed so much in our hearts.

Grieving is like swimming in the ocean. The waves come up and can take you under for while. Just have to be patient until you land on shore. It sure is helping me to hear your precious thoughts and memories here.
I thought I would share some more with you.
Vernon and I were stationed in Ft. Ord, California in 1976. He got there a bit earlier than I did. We were transfered to an outpost in San Diego. Jim, Aletha, Robbie, Edna and Chester all come out to Cabrillo National Monument and Lighthouse to help us get married. It was a gorgeous day. We could see a panoramic view of the ocean. The whales were migrating south. I borrowed a white dress from Melanie in our unit. My mom/dad, Kathy and Dan were there. Our Army Unit was there. He was sooooo good looking : ) in his blue tux. with his blue eyes. The time for "kiss the bride" came and he held back. I gave him a great big kiss and he was so embarrassed. : ) It was rather out of character for me. He was normally the less reserved person. The day was glorious, full of dreams, and hope for the future.

I surely will miss checking in him and chatting with him. To bad there isn't a picture of him with his awesome blue. Guess they are not in a big hurry. I remembers people by their faces not name.

Vernon liked to get up early and watch the sunrise. He told me once, "You should never miss a day to see the sun come up!"
