Obituary of Lucille Brown

Lucille Christine Brown, 94, long-time resident of Mildred, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville, Missouri. Lucille was born May 31, 1921, in Gardner, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Barthol) Golba. She grew up in the Gardner area. On November 2, 1942, she married Charles L. "Charlie" Brown in Mississippi. They returned to Mildred after the war and were partners with Charlie''s brother, Kenneth, in Brown Brothers General Merchandise. In later years, the store was called Charlie Brown''s Market. He preceded her in death June 21, 2001. She made her home in Humboldt before moving to Higginsville. She was a member of St. John''s Catholic Church in Iola, Kansas. Survivors include her son, Robert Brown and wife, Donna of Higginsville, MO, daughter Sandy Cormack and husband, Jerry of Lenexa, KS, 4 grandchildren, 1 step-granddaughter, 1 great granddaughter and 2 step-great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Patricia Becker and her husband, Michael and her siblings, Frank, Sophia, Nellie, Julie, Ann, Edward and John. Visitation will be 7:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Chapel in Iola. The parish rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, followed by the celebration of the mass at 10:30 a.m. both at St. John''s Catholic Church in Iola. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Mildred, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to St. John''s Catholic Church or Preferred Hospice and may be left with the funeral home.
