Obituary of Julie Tidd

Julie Dawn (Tarum) Tidd, 50, of Iola, Kansas, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at her home. Julie was born June 16, 1961 in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Melvin I. and Eunice E. (Bentson) Tarum. She was active in her growing up years with church activities where she sang in the junior choir, 4-H where she studied sewing, foods and knitting and high school where she played the flute in the school band, played in the Wichita Youth Orchestra, played volleyball and was involved in journalism and yearbook. After graduation from McPherson High School in 1979, she moved to Wichita to study Music Education at Wichita State University. Upon graduation with her Bachelor's degree in Music Education in 1984, she moved to Iola, to be the band instructor for Iola schools. She met David Tidd and they were married on June 13, 1987, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson. Julie taught for 7 years before she started her family. Her musical activities included playing in the Iola Area Symphony Orchestra for 28 years, directing or playing in the Iola Municipal Band for 25 years, Iola Music Club, pit orchestra for Iola Community Theatre productions, and adjunct music faculty at Allen Community College. She also served as a substitute teacher for USD #257 in Iola, and belonged to Chapter L, P.E.O. in Iola. Survivors include her husband, 6 children, Joshua, Joel, Jason, Jonathan, Jennifer and Jessica, her parents, Melvin and Eunice Tarum of McPherson, KS, brother Daniel Tarum and sister Nancy Woodruff & husband, David all of Wichita, KS and their children, Brandon, Kristin & Ryan, mother-in-law Ina M. Day & husband, Jack of Iola, KS, father-in-law Frank Tidd, brother-in-law Darin Tidd & wife, Kristi all of Neosho Falls, KS and their children Tyler, Caleb, Darian and Danielle and sister-in-law Phyllis DeVoe & husband, Chad of Chanute, KS, and their children Matthew and Cheyenne. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Atle and Jennie (Hanson) Tarum and Frank & Eva (Burk) Bentson. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the First Christian Church, 1608 Oregon Road, Iola, KS FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the First Christian Church, 1608 Oregon Road, Iola, KS BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIALS ARE SUGGESTED TO: Chapter L, P.E.O., Iola Area Symphony Orchestra, Iola Municipal Band, or Berean Bible Society Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
