Kim, I met your husband after my husband John died last year, he and John were in the reserves together. John was the senior unit administrator for the Army Reserve Group here in Columbia. John cared deeply for Gerald and was concerned about his health as well, he told me what Gerald had been going through since he got back from Iraq. John, Neal Overstreet, and Gerald went to Fort Lewis together for A.T. I just learned about Gerald's passing yesterday from Neal and understand there is going to be a memorial service this saturday at the Reserve Building, I look forward to meeting and am sorry it is under these circumstances. From what I heard from John and when I met Gerald he was a very kind man and I know that this is a extremely difficult time for you as I too am still grieving the loss of John. I can't say that with time it gets easier dealing with their passing but all the wonderful memories that we shared with our loved ones does help. Please accept my sincere sympathy, I will pray for you. If you ever need to talk, I am here, it's not much but sometimes it does help. Betty Rupard

Jerry and I worked together at Piney Ridge Center in 1998. What I remember about him was his eagerness to learn with the biggest heart. He was firm and fair. He was definetly a kind person with a sense of humor. I enjoyed the time I spent with Jerry, either at work or out and about. My condolences to the family during this tough time. May God be with you.

Gerald and I went to High School together. He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed it, and always had a smile and a joke to share. He was a wonderful person, and the world will seem a little bit dimmer without his light.

I met Jerry back in 2002 as he was my supervisor. We came to be great friends and I owe a lot of my training to Jerry. He was definately one of the greatest people and was always true to his friends and his job. Kim, my heart goes out to you and I know you have the strength and love to keep Jerry's memory alive. You were an excellent wife to him and a great person to be able to care for him the way you did. I am always here if you need me.

Jerry was my supervisor at Piney Ridge in 2003-2004. We shared many stories during that time and our work bonded us. The military took my family to other states since then, but I always stayed in contact with Jerry each month. Jerry was extremely giving of himself, worked hard, and always did what was right. He was always there for others when they needed it, even if it meant sacrificing himself. I will always admire him for what he has left behind and for the life that he lived. He surely has built himself a place in heaven. I'm also so grateful that his wife, Kim has stood beside and cared for him during these past years of illness and hardship. Kim- you are an angel- and your fortune shall be returned to you someday! I will miss his friendship dearly. I am unable to make travel arrangements for the funeral, but would like to express my sympathies and also thanks for the family and friends that have taken care of Jerry, my "life-long long-distance friend". I hope to see him again someday.
