Obituary of Ofelia Cannon
Ofelia Dolores (Dee) Cannon, 74, of Shawnee, Kansas, formerly of Iola and Garnett, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at her home.
She was born January 16, 1936, in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of Joe and Maria Mercedes (Arambula) Ornelas. She grew up in Iola where she graduated from St. John's School and from Iola High School in 1954. Dee attended Mercy School of Nursing in Ft. Scott graduating in 1957 and later took graduate courses at KU and UMKC.
On April 25, 1959, Dolores married James F. Cannon, Jr. at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola on what was the happiest day of her life. She worked as head nurse at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City from 1959 until she retired in 1991.
She was awarded many certificates and enjoyed her nursing career. She also enjoyed traveling and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mercedes Ornelas, 4 brothers, Joe, Jr., Frank, Nacho and Nello Ornelas and by an infant sister, Carmen Ornelas.
Cremation has taken place.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Highland Cemetery in Iola. The Rev. Robert Wachter will preside.
MEMORIAL CHOICES: Children's Mercy Hospital or St. John's Catholic Church in Iola.
