Obituary of Roy Duane Roush
Roy Duane Roush, age 73, of Greeley, Kansas passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at home. Duane was born September 27, 1942 in Kansas City, KS. He was the first born of four children born to Roy O. and Wilma Jean (Ensley) Roush. Duane's family moved to Iola, Kansas when he was a young boy. He grew up near Welda, Kansas, attending school at the one room school, Pleasant Ridge, and then the Welda High School. Duane married Georgia Day, two children were born to this union, and they later divorced. He is a veteran of the US Navy. Following his time in the Navy he returned to the Welda area. Duane married Linda Hiles in 1967, four children were born to this union, and they later divorced. Duane lived in Ottawa, Kansas for several years. He worked as a mechanic at HD Lee where he met Rebecca (Brittingham). They were married on June 29, 1985 at Burlington, Kansas. They moved to Greeley in 1994. Duane served as mayor of Greeley for a number of years. Duane worked as the plant manager at Fashion Inc. in Ottawa for ten plus years until his retirement. He loved fishing and "collecting" treasures, but mostly enjoyed people, as he never met a stranger. Duane was accomplished artist, working in paint and pencil. He was a man of numerous talents; it seemed as if there was nothing he could not do.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Jerry Turner; and nephew, Tommy Tush.
He is survived by his wife, Beck Roush of the home; five sons, Craig Roush and wife, Terry of Wichita, Kansas, Mike Roush and wife, Billie of Kennesaw, Georgia, Mark Roush of Lawrence, Kansas, Matthew Roush of Kansas City, Missouri and Ricky Mitchell of Westphalia, Kansas; four daughters, Anita Ott of Grand Junction, Colorado, Michelle Siekman and husband, Doug of Raymore, Missouri, Elizabeth Howard and husband, Kenneth of Ottawa, Kansas, and Karen Turner of Lincoln, Missouri; three sisters, Carol Hermreck and husband, John of Garnett, Kansas, Kay Casper and husband, Jeff of Chanute, Kansas, and Janice Tush and husband, Tom of Garnett, Kansas; his stepmother, Flossie Roush of Amsterdam, Missouri; his "adopted" brother, Geno Thacker and wife, Le Ann of Garnett, Kansas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 219 S. Oak, Garnett. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.
