Obituary of Kathleen R. Guilfoyle

Kathleen Rose Guilfoyle, age 91, of Greeley, Kansas, entered Heaven's gates and eternal peace on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, Kansas. Kathleen was born on Monday, March 9, 1925 in Greeley, Kansas. She was the second daughter born to Frank and Gertrude (Oswald) Lanzrath. She grew up in Greeley and graduated from Greeley High School in 1944. Kathleen married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Guilfoyle, at St. John's Church in Greeley on July 8, 1947 and spent the next 61 years together. They bought a farm in Greeley, Kansas where they made their home and raised their 10 children. A dedicated mother and homemaker, Kathleen stayed home and raised their children and helped on the farm. After her youngest child started school, Kathleen began working as a cook at St. John's school and later worked for SRS. She also volunteered at the ARC Thrift Store in Garnett where she was always quick to find and bring home many new treasures. Kathleen had an unwavering faith in God and was a very active member of St. John's Church and Altar Society. Possessing a true servant's heart, Kathleen faithfully cared for family and friends and was well known for her delicious bread and cinnamon rolls. She got a lot of joy from playing cards, dominos, and dice games and would engage any willing player in a quick game of cards no matter how young or old they were. Kathleen was a devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company. After all of their children were grown and out of the house, Kathleen and Bob enjoyed many hours fishing together and competing at the local fairs to see whose loaf of bread brought home the purple ribbon. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Bob, on March 31, 2008; a son, Timothy Guilfoyle in 1986; grandson, Christopher Roeckers; great-granddaughter, Kara Mitchell; brother Lou Wolken; and sister, Mary Agnes Obermier. She is survived by her four sons: Robert Guilfoyle and wife Jacalyn of Wichita, KS; William Guilfoyle and wife Jeanie of Ft. Scott, KS; Frank Guilfoyle and wife Tammy of Rantoul, KS; and Curt Guilfoyle and wife Connie of Richmond, KS. Her five daughters: Beverly Roeckers and husband John D of Reedsburg, WI; Carolyn Hojnacki and husband Mark of Tecumseh, KS; Ruth Ohmes and husband Rick of Greeley, KS; Gerette Dennison and husband Brennan of Benton, KS; and Norma Rockers and husband Roger of Garnett, KS. Twenty-six grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren. One brother, John Wolken; three sisters: Delores Ginbey, Bernadette Madison, and Betty Rainwater; and one sister-in-law, Jeanette Wolken. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St. John's Catholic Church, Greeley, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. John's Cemetery, Greeley, Kansas. The family will greet friends following a wake service at 7:30 PM, Friday, March 18, 2016, at St. John's Catholic Church, Greeley, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Building Fund or St. Rose School and left in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
