Rhonda and Krysta, I don't know if you at all remember me, but I first met Mary during the summer Krysta went to Strobridge Elementary school in Castro Valley, California. Mary would walk Krysta to school everyday.
We were the oddest of friends, me I want to say, 27 and Mary, as old as I am now 51. I can't remember how we met, but I do remember spending as much time as I could with her before she set off back east. In that short amount of time of maybe a few weeks, I just knew I'd found a friend for life.
We kept in touch by phone and letters that turned into a yearly call, a gift for Maggie and a Christmas card.
I got to keep up on Rhonda and Krysta and Lance and the 2 Grandsons. Mary was a very proud Grandma. But, the best thing about Mary was her humor and the way she looked at life. I could always count on her to tell it like it is...God, I miss her. She was my friend.
Last year her Christmas card was returned to me, and I tried to reach her or Dan, and even searched the internet, but got nowhere.
Thank you for posting this to the internet...my heart is breaking, but nothing was worse than not knowing.
I always hoped I'd get to see my friend again in this life, but it never happened. Mary taught me that even a small amount of your time can create a huge difference in another person's life. My Christmas' will never be the same.
