Oh, what a shock.
Matt will always be with me and I thank God for the memories of the many conversations we had in the halls of BVW.
Matt's outward strength and inner piece is his gift to me.
Matt's interest in the things God has made was reflected in his love of things in the world of horticulture.
Matt was hospitalized and blessed me by our quiet conversations usually about students.

Oh, what a shock.
Matt will always be remembered for his soft heart and love of horticulture - in the things God has made.
Matt's image will always be with me - large, outwardly strong and sincere in his faith.
Matt influenced many in a spiritual way - when conversing with Matt (which was often) the Spirit of God's presence was near.
Matt, I will always miss you and will see you in valhalla.

We at Blue Valley West, were shocked and saddened to hear of Matt's passing. He was such an asset to the BVW community. I remember the number of students who told me that the real life lessons they learned in high school came from Mr. Travers. Although he is no longer with us, his impact is lasting. I pray that he now knows the peace we all seek when we finally our with our Father.

Matt would often stop into my office at BVW and we would visit about his garden. I loved his enthusiasm for cultivating and his excitement in anticipating the growth and transformation of his rare beauties. He could paint a picture with his words for you to see the blooms and idiosyncrasies of the "strange" varities in his collection. I know he is smiling as he walks in the perfect, ever-blooming gardens in heaven. My deepest sympathy to those closest to him. Linda Shaw, Blue Valley North

My deepest thoughts and prayers today are with Matt his family and specifically his son Issac. I probably knew the "best" side of Matt as well as anyone at Blue Valley West. As his principal, I was very close to the "highs" and the "lows" that he faced, sometimes on a daily bases. I had the opportunity to spend a day, at his request, with his church family and it forever changed my opinion in a positive way, of Matt and his religious family. Matt was the least understood and under-appreciated teacher that I worked with in my professional career. His heart and intentions for the greater good of all that he worked with in education (teachers and students)was only truly appreciated by those who could get beyond a sometimes "first impression" weakeness on their part. Matt was loved by many and over time will be even missed more by those that failed to see and meet his standard of religion and his love for humanity. Peace be with you Matt!

My sincere condolences to Mr. Travers' family. I was a student of Mr. Travers at Blue Valley West. As a graduate now pursuing an education degree, I both respect and appreciate his passion for teaching as well as his interest and compassion shown to his students. He was an encouragement and kind supporter in all my endeavors. There was never an instance that he wouldn't take time from his busy day to show his care and concern for my aspirations. He was an awesome teacher and a great friend. My life has been blessed by our paths crossing. He will be greatly missed.

I am saddened by the passing of my friend and fellow English 12 teacher. I have worked with Matt since our school opened in 2000 and because we taught at the same grade level, I worked closely with him on a weekly basis sharing lesson plans and stories about our lives. I found him to be a bright and thoughtful person. I loved the bananna bread and herbs he brought me. My thoughts and prayers are with his son, his family members, and his friends.

Our paths would sometimes cross by the teacher mailboxes. We would exchange pleasantries, then often engage in a short conversation regarding a number of topics.
Also, whenever one of my learning center students was enrolled in one of his classes, he was always very flexible and sensitive to any accommodations they needed. I always appreciated that about Matt.
I will miss our chats and his cheerful greetings.

My thoughts and prayers are with Matt, Isaac, family and friends at this time. Matt had a deep faith and I know he is in a better place. There is a poem, "Gone From My Sight" by Henry Van Dyke that may give you comfort. It has for me when I have lost a loved one. Matt taught my daughter Maggie. And my son Nolan is a student at Blue Valley West and knows "Mr. Travers" as well. I enjoyed visiting with him at PT conferences. He was always open to share his thoughts and insights about education and life. He was happy to live in and contribute significantly to his community and Matt will be greatly missed. I celebrate his life and contributions to the world, including his son, Isaac.
Best regards,
Maureen Liggett

My thoughts and prayers are with Matt's family during this very difficult time. I will always remember Matt as a teacher who cared about kids and would go above and beyond the expectations to allow every student to be successful. He was patient and kind, positive and caring. We have to trust that he is in a better place and is continuning to teach.
