Obituary of Rose E. Katzer
Rose E. Katzer, age 93, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Golden Heights in Garnett.
She was born on March 23, 1922, in Paola, Kansas, the daughter of Frank J. and Mary Theresa (Readecker) Moews. Rose grew up in Paola and graduated from Paola High School in 1940, she then attended Ursuline Academy for one year. Following school, Rose worked in Kansas City, commuting home to Paola via train on the weekends. She would later meet her future husband, Alfred, at a dance in Paola.
Rose was united in marriage to Alfred I. Katzer on October 25, 1949, in Paola, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children. They made their first home in Greeley, later moving to Kincaid, Kansas. In 1955 they moved back to Greeley where they would spend the rest of their working years. Rose and Alfred farmed and raised beef and dairy cattle, with Rose taking care of the milking duties. In 1994 they sold their farm and moved to Garnett.
Rose was a member of St. John's Church and Altar Society while living in Greeley and then Holy Angels Church in Garnett. In her later years she kept busy with quilting and tending to her flowers. Rose particularly enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Katzer on December 6, 1994; four sisters, Mary Windler, Agnes Petree, Kathleen Rockers, and Betty Baker; two brothers, Henry Moews and Francis Moews; and grandson, Casey King.
Rose is survived by her children, Shirley Patton and husband Warren of Greeley; Alfred "Fred" Katzer and wife Diana of Greeley, Kansas; Theresa Paxton and husband Dennis of Pomona, Kansas; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery, Garnett. The family will greet friends following a Rosary at 6:30 PM, Friday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose School.
