Obituary of Chris Edward Bowen
Chris Edward Bowen, age 64, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at his home, where he had been battling cancer since March.
Chris was one of four children that completed the family of A. Darlene South and Hansford Johnson "Bo" Bowen, being born in Garnett on October 8, 1951. Chris spent all of his life in Garnett, graduating from Garnett High School in 1969. He started working at an early age. Chris worked at Mobil and Conoco stations, providing full service. He worked on cars, often being called at on at all hours of the day and night to help stranded motorists, never asking or expecting payment. During his years at the stations, he formed a life-long friendship with Dave Stanton.
On Friday, February 13, 1976, Chris married his love, Diana Williams. This union was blessed with three children, Michael Eric, Christepher Michael, and Amanda Fay.
Chris worked as a custodian at GHS for several years before driving a truck for mail contractors. For the last 25 years, he had been employed by Rooney Trucking until his health failed. He loved his job and meeting new people. However, because he drove back and forth daily, the word "snow" became a four letter word not allowed in his house.
He was baptized and was a member of the Baptist Church. During his married life, he attended the Nazarene Church when his job allowed. In his younger years, he was a member of the Optimist Club, serving as Secretary. He also was a member of the Garnett Volunteer Fire Department for several years until his employment duties kept him from being able to respond.
Chris' passion was cars. He built and raced stock cars. Many late hours and long nights were spent in the garage. He loved to tell jokes and laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Kay Moyer; and his granddaughter, Alexis Allyn Bowen.
Chris leaves beautiful memories with his wife of nearly 40 years, Diana, of the home; sons, Michael Eric Bowen and Christepher and Brandi Bowen; daughter, Amanda and Bryan Burk; his pride and joy grandchildren, Destiny and Andy Seuell, Bryce, Michael, Corey, Harley, Lars, and Addyson Bowen, Rudy Parker and Kaylie, Nathan and Avery Burk; and the apple of his eye, great granddaughter, Livianne Seuell; two brothers, Hansford Eugene Bowen of Milton, Florida; Robert Lee Bowen and wife Victoria of Palmdale, California; aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, October 30, 2015, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, with burial to follow in the Welda Cemetery, Welda, Kansas. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chris Bowen Memorial Fund.
