Vers lived across the hall from me in Pleasanton Kansas. She was such a sweet lady. I remember when we would have dinners where we lived. We just had to go down the hall to the community room. She would always say are we going to the basement to eat. I'm sorry for your loss.

Dear John (always known to me as Johnny) and all other family members. I have known Vera and the Comstock family for over 60 years. I first met Vera when her son John and I were in the 4th & 5th grade together in the same room at Colony. John and I became best friends and remained best friends to this day. I spent many weekend overnight stays at the Comstock house and Vera was always delighted to have me stay with them. She could cook a great breakfast on Saturday mornings. Us and many of our classmates spent many hours in their east yard playing Softball, Baseball, and Football. (Remember the Wooden Soapbox race cars we built out of spare wood bent nails and wheels and axels. Then race them down the sidewalk on the hill of Clem McGee's house. Red Comstock always went to the Iola sale barn on Saturday mornings and when I was staying overnight with Johnny I would have to call my parents and beg them to be able to go to the sale with Johnny and his dad. Vera was always on the phone with my mother assuring her that I would be home by 2:00 pm to work in the garden. When Don and David were gone from home Vera gave Johnny permission to bring a friend along with them on a vacation to Colorado. I had never been on that kind of vacation before. Johnny, family and I had a great time and we also climbed Pikes Peak in their 1959 six cylinder Chevy sedan. When I was in the service I lived in Colorado Springs, CO and took family and friends up Pikes Peak 7 or 8 times.
Yes Vera was a great person and was like a second mother to me. She always made sure that us kids could have the most fun of what ever we dreamed up do in our spare time as kids and when not attending school.
I learned to swim in the Comstock pond and Vera was always right there making sure we were safe.
Vera was truly a great lady and will be missed by me and my brothers and sister, but the great memories will never go away of the very good times I had at the Comstock house when I was growing up.
Vera is now home with the Lord, We will meet next time in Heaven and rejoice together.
Love you all,
Arvin and Kathy Clemans

I am so sorry for your loss. Vera was a wonderful lady. I enjoyed her humor and relied on her insight when she was an EHU member and president of the Homemakers Council. Vera was a hard worker. Prayers for your family.

I can't help but smile when I see Vera's picture. I hear her laugh too. I was lucky to grow up with her as a neighbor. A few of my favorite memories....
Good News. I wonder how many children's lives she changed. What an amazing lady to invite so many children into her home to spread God's message. I bet many Colony kids can still sing those songs!
Birthdays. August was a good month; Stacy's the 20th, Pearl's the 24th, Mine the 26th, and Vera's the 29th. I will forever think of her every August 29th.
Refrigerator Magnets. I guess my mom was to blame for this one. Each year we gave Vera a new magnet for the fridge and each year they made it to the fridge and stayed there. I always snuck a peek to be sure!
Telephones. It makes me giggle even now to think how Vera never said goodbye. When she was done talking, she simply hung up!
Visits. She always had time to listen to a story and share her own. Going to Vera's house was never a quick trip.
She was a blessing. I will be keeping your family in my prayers.

My wife and I wish to send our condolences to John and his wife Karen. We didn't know Vera but her life reflects her service and love for God. I have many happy memories of attending Good News at Vera's home when I was in elementary and middle school. Some of the first lessons about Christ were learned in her living room. She was always smiling and sharing her joy with others and that is what I will always remember about her. She is with Him in Heaven now, proclaiming Good News, I'm sure.
God Bless

I knew Vera as the beautiful sweet lady who would come and pick me up for church every Sunday (and teach my Sunday school class) when I lived in Colony. I was in 2nd and 3rd grade at the time. My first church experiences come from being with her. I will cherish those memories always. *I still make the same Christmas ornaments with my children as she taught me to make in Sunday school. She truly touched many lives, especially with the word and work of God.

Prayers for Vera's family. She was a wonderful neighbor, friend and teacher. I had many good teachers at Colony. However, Vera was my 2nd & 3rd grade teacher and definitely my favorite teacher. I loved her so much I never wanted to miss school, not even when I was sick. She is the reason I loved school and was eager to learn through all my school years. She will forever be missed!

My deepest sympathy to the family of Vera. She was my second grade teacher, my mom cleaned her house, she took my daughter, Anglea to Sunday school while we lived in Colony. My brother, Ron, worked for her husband. We all loved her and will miss her. I remember her wonderful laugh and smile. God bless this wonderful woman.
