Ethel had a profound affect on my academic success in high school and beyond. I do not remember how many classes I had with her. I most remember freshman biology because that is where my love for the biological sciences began. She had a profoundly positive and caring attitude towards all students and a clear goal to help us all glean a basic understanding of the biological sciences. My condolences to the family.

Carol, Terry and Family,
Ethel was by far my favorite teacher in high school. I got to be her assistant during my senior year. She and I spent a lot of time together during the years of science classes that I had with her. Each time I saw her after graduation, she would light up and recall the story of my getting bit by the huge black snake we used to have in class. We always got some great laughs over that episode! Ethel was a very special woman. She always had a smile on her face. I know you will miss her terribly. I hope it helps to know that those whose lives she touched are thinking of you and wishing you peace.

I so enjoyed having Mrs. Rugg for P.E. in high school. She taught me so many sports that I'd never played before. I have so many fond memories of her. One Summer, I was privileged to learn to water ski. She would load up a bunch of girls and take us to Pomana Lake and teach us how to ski. Mrs. Rugg also took us to a volleyball intramural at ESU (called KSTC at that time) and another time to KU for field hockey. My junior year I helped her one hour a day with the freshman PE class. She touched many young peoples lives and I know her family will miss her presence greatly. I hold you all in my thoughts and prayers.

What an incredible lady, teacher, Grandma, and friend. She was a gift to everyone she came into contact with. I recall her never missing a volleyball, basketball, or softball game even in the extreme heat!! She had a radiant spirit and a contagious smile. She was dearly loved by so many of us and always willing to give a hug. I'm saddened to learn of her passing, but will always think of her fondly. May she rest in peace. Thinking of all of you during this time.

To all the family of Ethel Rugg:
Sending our thoughts and prayers your way. One of my memories of Ethel was how she loved softball games. She hardly missed a game, out of town or not. If I remember correctly, the girls were in a 2 day tournament which required us to stay in a motel. Early the next morning, we all met down in the lobby and who do we see bright and perky....Ethel! She had spent the night in her vehicle, in the parking lot, so she wouldln't miss the girls game that day!
She was always full of spunk and spirit!

Dear Family,
We extend our sincere sympathy at the loss of your mother. Ethel and your father were great friends of ours for
many, many years. We will forever be grateful to Ethel for being such a wonderful teacher and friend to our children. Filling in as a substitute for Ethel was always rewarding as her students were so interested in their class work and She had such a way of "opening up the world of science" to them and energizing them. Will cherish our quilting and gardening years together. Knowing Ethel - certainly enriched our lives. Now she is a bright shining star in God's heavenly world. May He comfort all of you in the days ahead.
