Obituary of Everett H. Roecker

Everett H. Roecker, age 92 of Richmond, Kansas passed away June 28, 2009 at the Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, Kansas. Everett was born September 23, 1916 at Scipio, Kansas the son of Peter J. and Mary (Feuerborn) Roecker. He grew up in the Scipio area. He entered the United States Army on April 1, 1942. During WWII he served as a Tech Sergeant in the 359th Infantry of the 90th Division. He saw battle the European Theatre, with his landing at Normandy on D-Day. His service earned him a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. On December 1, 1945 he was discharged and returned to the Waverly area where he began farming. On May 16, 1948 he married Ruth Maxine Counselman at Ottawa. This union was blessed with 6 children. They farmed in the Williamsburg area until moving to Richmond in 1974. . Everett then began working at the Richmond Co-Op. Ruth passed away on January 6, 1975. He retired from there in 1981. On May 14, 1977 Everett married Geneva Doudna at Richmond. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and dancing, but his greatest joy was his family and his grandchildren. He was a member of the St. Therese Catholic Church, Richmond, and the V.F.W., Garnett, serving as Post Commander and then many years on the Honor Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; two sisters, Esther Bouroughs and Eletta Martin; a brother, Ernest Roecker; a grandson, Steve Fisher; and a great-grandson, James Everett Fisher. Everett is survived by his wife, Geneva, of the home; children, Karen Geiger and husband, Alfred, Janis Modlin, Barb Roecker, all of Ottawa, Elaine Burchett and husband, Larry, of Branson, Missouri, Teresa Hermreck and husband, Mike, of Williamsburg, Kansas, Larry Roecker of Lane, Kansas, and Susie Roecker of Ottawa; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alfred Roecker and wife, Mary, of Williamsburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the St. Therese Catholic Church, Richmond. Interment with military graveside honors will follow in the St. John's Cemetery, Greeley, Kansas. The family will greet friends following a Rosary service at 7:00 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Garnett.
