Obituary of Maynard Clarence Belvoir
Maynard Clarence Belvoir, age 94, of Colony, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 16, 2015. He was born April 26, 1921 in Colony, to Clarence Otto and Verda Lorraine (Nichols) Belvoir. He graduated from Colony High in 1941, in that same year, he married Pauline McCoy and his first daughter was born to that union. He later moved to California where he met and married Rosie Saputo in 1943, and they had six children together.
He worked as a painting contractor for many years. He led a very active life as a business owner, Elks Lodge member, Lions Club member, and Civil Air Patrol Pilot. He also earned his auctioneer’s license, just for fun. In 1983, he returned to Colony and the family farm, where he loved to raise a variety of animals. Maynard served as Mayor of LaHarpe, Kansas and later as a member of the Colony City Council. After the death of his wife Rosie, he married Illa Davis in 1997, bringing her four children into the family. He was very devoted to his children and grandchildren.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie; two sons, Maynard and Jon; daughter, Edith Jane; three sisters, Pauline, Madge, and Ina Mae; two brothers, Howard (WWII) and Bob.
He is survived by his wife, Illa, of the home; three daughters, Victoria and Robert Faulkner of Colony, Delores Thomas-McMullen and Ron McMullen of Colony, Lim and Clay Barnett of Roseville, California; one son, Paul Belvoir of Los Angeles, California; ten grandchildren, Bambi and John Blazer, Tony and Audrey Bruno, Cindy and Richard Gragalba, John and Cori Thomas, Jeff and Maryanne Faulkner, Melissa Faulkner, Brian Thomas, Roseanne and Jeff Shoop, Sofia Belvoir and Emma Barnett; twelve great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; four step-children, Jerri and Mark Henry of Gas, Kansas, Bobbie and Beth Davis of Colony, Eddie and La Donna Davis of Colony, and Perry Davis of Chanute, Kansas; four step-grandchildren, Chad, Corey, Dusty, and Taylor.
In honor of Maynard, there will be a memorial luncheon served for family, friends and local residents at the Colony City Hall on Saturday, June 6th, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at a later date.
