Marie Simons, age 92 of Garnett, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas. Marie was born on October 23, 1916, the daughter of Frederick Alanson Simons and Elizabeth Johannah (Blum) Simons. She grew up in the area and graduated from Garnett High School. In her early 20's Marie moved to Kansas City, where she worked as a switchboard operator for the Santa Fe Railroad. After 38 years she retired from Santa Fe and returned to Garnett. Marie was a member of the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lucy Trimmel; Ada Hiner; Ruth Mitchell; and two brothers, Walter Simons and Billy Simons. She is survived by her twin sister Marjorie Holdsworth of Garnett, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Garnett Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service on Monday morning.
