Obituary of Donald A. Fitzmaurice

Donald Fitzmaurice, age 79, of Mont Ida, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015, at his home. He was born July 12, 1935, in Iola, Kansas, the son of Garrett Henry and Gladys (Bogle) Fitzmaurice. Don graduated from Humboldt High School with the Class of 1953. He joined the United States Marine Corps for three years. Don was the only non-commissioned Officer that was a member of the Marine Corps Basketball team. He was stationed at 29 Palms, California. Don married Audrea Shigley on September 28, 1955; this union was blessed with four children. They later divorced. He married Martha Wilson on October 14, 1993 in Fort Scott, Kansas. He enjoyed working with the land, being an organic gardener, and loved working with animals. He was preceded in death by his parents Garrett and Gladys Fitzmaurice. Don is survived by his wife, Martha Fitzmaurice of the home; his children, Debbie Garcia and husband Patrick of Kansas City, Kansas; Michael Fitzmaurice and wife Donita of LaHarpe, Kansas; Shari Davis and husband Jim of Independence, Missouri; Jeffrey Fitzmaurice and wife Sheila of Humboldt, Kansas; step-children, Arnold Thomas of Yates Center, Kansas; Richard Thomas and wife Annette of Fredonia, Kansas; grandchildren, Katrina Carrillo and husband Eric; Matthew Garcia; Nichole Hodgden and husband John; Luke Fitzmaurice; Jamie Merl and husband Steven; Jeramie Davis; Alex Davis; Megan Davis; Garrett and wife Hillary; Taylor Fitzmaurice and fiancé Mason Coons; great grandchildren, Gage Carrillo; Keagan Hodgden; Madelynn Hodgden; Taylor Catterson; Kash Fitzmaurice; Canton Fitzmaurice; Braxton Fitzmaurice and Hallie Fitzmaurice. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at the Mont Ida Church of the Brethren, burial following in the Mont Ida Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
