Obituary of Hazel Marie Lile

Hazel Marie (Fort) Lile was born on November 23, 1929 in Paola, Kansas to Arthur Clement Fort and Emma Grace (Smith) Fort. She passed from this life on January 21, 2015, at Richmond Healthcare in Richmond, Kansas. Hazel grew up in a loving family of 10 children. When all the children were grown and married, they remained close as they raised their own families, having Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter celebrations together, as well as many family picnics and gatherings throughout the summers. There was always good food, and much love and laughter whenever the Fort family was gathered. Stories of those days are told and re-told every time any of the family are together. Hazel was united in marriage to Samuel D. Lile on July 11, 1949 at Olympia, WA. After Sam got out of the Army they moved with their children to Protection Kansas, then later, to Denver, Colorado. From there they came back to Paola for several years before moving to Greeley, Kansas in 1963, which became their home for the rest of their married life. She was a seamstress and began working in sewing factories at the age of 13. She worked at Smith's in Paola, Mode-O-Day in Osawatomie and Ottawa, and H.D. Lee in Ottawa. After working many years as a seamstress she became an employee of the Osawatomie State Hospital where she worked in the kitchen until she retired at the age of 74. She enjoyed her jobs wherever she worked and always got along well with those she worked with. Maybe growing up with nine brothers and sisters is why she liked joking with people and having them joke with her. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel Lile on June 26, 2011; daughter, Connie Ray and her husband Ivan; one grandson, Nathan Lile; four brothers; Clement, Harvey, Richard, and Billie Fort; four sisters; Thelma Hewitt and husband George; Katherine Conner; Edith Harvey; and Helen Huston. She is survived by her son, Donald Lile and wife Bonnie of Garnett, Kansas; grandson, Tracy Ray of Osawatomie, Kansas; granddaughter, Michelle Ray of Osawatomie, Kansas; great granddaughter, Mikayla Furnish; sister, Betty Oberheide and husband Damon of Paola, Kansas; sisters-in-law; Linda Fort of LaCygne, Kansas and Lorene Fort of Paola, Kansas; also numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends and neighbors who loved her very much. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett; burial following in Paola Cemetery, Paola, Kansas. Family will greet friends at the funeral home in Garnett from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to Mikayla Furnish Education Fund.
