Obituary of Richard Teter

Richard E. Teter, age 70, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014, at his home. He was the fifth of eleven children born to Flick M. and Verna Mae (Demoret) Teter. Richard was born on July 13, 1944 at Garnett, Kansas. He grew up in Garnett and graduated from Garnett High School in 1962. In 1964 he married Janice M. Welch, one daughter, Rebecca, was born to this union. They later divorced. In 1976 Richard began working as a boilermaker. His work took him all over the United States. After 26 years as a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local #83 Richard retired in 2002 and returned to his hometown of Garnett. Richard was a Third Degree Master Mason of the Xenia Masonic Lodge #47. In his retirement he enjoyed working on his ranch and taking care of his cattle. Richard shared over 30 years of his life with Virginia Beirce. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Alberta Nadine Teter and one brother Kenny Roger Teter. Richard is survived by his daughter, Becky Teter of Beloit, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Andrea L. Loftus and husband, Alex, of Glendale Heights, Illinois and David R. Teter of Rockford, Illinois; five brothers and three sisters, Leroy Teter and wife, Zella, of Garnett, Beverly Ann Nobles and husband, Frank, of Cummings, Georgia, James E. Teter and wife, Joyce, of Ottawa, Kansas, Bill Teter, Mike Teter and wife, Connie, Judy Garcia, Randy Teter and wife, Debbie, and Mary Garcia and husband, Ramon, all of Garnett; one sister-in-law, Kay Teter of Hollister, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Parker Cemetery, Parker, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday evening at the funeral home in Garnett. Memorial contributions to Xenia Masonic Lodge #47 may be left in care of the funeral home.
