Obituary of Norma Rose McDonald

Norma R. McDonald, age 93, of Garnett, Kansas passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Anderson County Long Term Care Facility, Garnett. She was born September 12, 1915 at Hiawatha, Kansas; the daughter of Frank E. and Eva (Bindel) Hill. She entered nurses training at St. Margaret's Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, graduating in1937. She went to work at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, meeting John McDonald there. They married on November 4, 1940 in Mississippi. Except for brief stays in Mississippi and Kansas, their married life was spent in and around New Orleans. After the death of her husband on January 31, 1960, she and her son moved to Garnett to be near her family. She worked at Anderson County Hospital and the Medical Center until her retirement. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with a group of friends and family and reading copiously. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Eva Hill; her husband, John McDonald; brothers, Roy, Elmer and Chuck Hill; sisters, Agnes Sutton and Helen Hill. Norma is survived by her son, Wade McDonald and wife Ruth of Garnett, Kansas; three brothers; Ivan Hill and wife Cecilia of Welda, Kansas; Albert Hill of Peru, Iowa; Herman Hill of Greeley, Kansas; and sister, Alice Climer of Lawrence, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett, Kansas with inurnment following at the Holy Angels Cemetery, Garnett. Family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. following a rosary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Angels Catholic Church.
