I just learned about Richard and wanted to add my sympathies to the many being expressed here. He was so obviously loved by the whole community and I'm surely proud to have known both of you. I noticed there was no mention made of his fantastic singing voice -- which could be heard for miles around. He was very talented and I'm sure he performed many times during his life. Dear Wells Family Curtis still to this day talks about coach Wells and how he knew he was a tough football player. Playing Miltonvale after he coached Blue Valley WOW players from here still visit with Curtis about those days. How crazy we now live in Miltonvale. My family will always remember Richard as a big, strong guy who had the ability to inject a little humor into every aspect of life. Karen and family I am so truly sorry for your loss. Mr. Wells was an awesome man and a great teacher. Karen know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. You and Richard were like family to Brett Keegan and I when the kids were small... I will always cherish those memories! Mr. Wells was the first teacher I had that truly pushed me to be a better student. He made me think, made me study...and in all honesty at first I didn't really care for all that. But let me tell you, by the end of that school year and many rounds with Mr. Wells, there was no teacher I ever respected more and looked up to. I'm very sorry for your loss, he was a great man and will be greatly missed.

Karen and family sorry for your loss. when I first came to Garnett. Richard took me under his big wing and I spent many mornings before school in his room while he held court. I enjoyed and miss that. he was a good one. As a Principal I wish I had him and a few more like him.

Coach Wells was such an inspiration to us at Miltonvale High. Was blessed to have him be a part of history here. I remember him requesting Sweet Georgia Brown be played at the football games by our pep band, so we did just that. We initiated the tunnel that was the length of the field. As our track coach we went to state and we would do anything for this man just as he would us. Guess what the class reunions main topic is? You guessed it our sports domination during that great time in all of our lives. God bless you Karen, Rich, Susan and Julie. May you all find comfort in knowing he is coaching the teams in heaven or he's talking about his teams and players. He was so proud of you all and as his family knew how much you supported his lifes journey. Love to you all.

Karen, Susan and family. I'm so sorry for your loss. Mr. Wells was a man that I respected and looked up to the most. He was so big, strong and intimidating (at first) but we all knew what a big teddy bear he really was! He was the best boss one could ask for and I'll always have many memories of the good old Wells Lawn Service days! I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
