Obituary of Delma J. French

Delma J. French, age 86, of Colony, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas. She was born on October 21, 1927, on a farm north of Parker, Kansas, to Albert E. and Ava (Young) Crosswhite. She attended Parker Grade School and graduated from Parker Rural High School with the Class of 1945. Delma attended Pittsburg State College and taught school for 3 years. On June 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to C. Virgil French. They made their home around Parker for 3 years, and then moved to Garnett, Kansas. In 1975, they moved to Colony, Kansas. One son, Michael, was born to this union. Delma worked at the Bush City State Bank for 11 years, then the bank moved to Colony, and she worked there for 14 years. She retired in 1988 after 25 years in the banking business, but remained on as a Director there until the bank was sold in 2006. Virgil and Delma loved antiques and were in the business of selling them until they were forced to sell their business because of Virgil's declining health in 2002. Virgil passed away on January 23, 2003. Delma was baptized at an early age at the Christian Church in Parker, Kansas. She later transferred to the First Christian Church in Garnett, and then later to the Colony Christian Church. Delma loved her church family and being with them every Sunday. She also loved her new daughter-in-law Tammy. Delma was also preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Ava Crosswhite, and brother Elwyn Deon Crosswhite. She is survived by her son, Michael French and Tammy of Winfield, Kansas; grandson Colton French of Winfield; brother, Darrel D. Crosswhite of Shelbyville, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Dale French of Tucson, Arizona; and sister-in-law, Faye Robbins of Temple, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 7:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Colony.
