Obituary of Alice Jane Ward
Alice Jane Ward, age 94, of Colony, Kansas, died on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas.
Alice was born on August 13, 1914, at Tyrone, Oklahoma, the daughter of Walter Kyle and Effie Belle (Freed) Clymer. She grew up in Satanta, Kansas, graduating from high school there. She taught school in country schools for five years following high school.
She married Henry Lloyd Ward on December 25, 1936, at Ulysses, Kansas. After their marriage the couple moved to Woodward, Oklahoma, later moving to Colony, Kansas in 1940. She was a homemaker while her children were young. She later worked at McAttee Nursing Home in Iola for ten years. Alice was a member of the Colony Christian Church, the Happy Circle Club, Library Board, and Anderson County Historical Society. She loved her garden and flowers, and reading.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Lloyd Ward on August 24, 1996; one son, Jim Ward; three grandchildren; two sisters, Freida Ogborne and Marjorie Scott; and three brothers, Adolphus Clymer, Warren Clymer, and Melvin Clymer.
She is survived by three sons, Bob Ward and wife Susan of Topeka, Kansas; Charlie Ward and wife Bev of Colony, Kansas; Larry Ward and wife Dixie of Colony, Kansas; one daughter, Danette Bergin and husband Tom of Hill City, South Dakota; daughter-in-law Jane Ward of Colony, Kansas; one sister, Grace Edna Willet of Lawrence, Kansas; Twenty-eight grandchildren; Fifty-four great grandchildren; and Forty-eight great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Colony Cemetery in Colony, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Friday evening at the funeral home in Colony. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colony Christian Church or to Golden Heights Living Center.
