Obituary of Darrell R. Ard
Darrell R. Ard, age 74, of Stark, Kansas, passed away on Thursday evening, February 20, 2014, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 1, 1940, in Porterville, Kansas, the son of Dewey C. and Nellie Lee (Bowen) Ard. He entered the United States Army at the age of 17. Upon returning home from the service, he married Mary Carol Davis on December 12, 1961 in Iola, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children. Following their marriage, the family lived in Phoenix, Arizona for 12 years before returning to Stark, Kansas in 1974. Carol preceded him in death on September 22, 2005.
He married Joanne Casner on February 11, 2006 in Ft. Scott, Kansas. They resided in Stark, Kansas, owning and operating the Stark Country Kennel, raising Miniature Schnauzers.
Darrell was a carpenter for most of his life, building many beautiful homes in the Phoenix and Cave Creek areas. He also was an over-the-road truck driver. He was a member of the Plow Boyz Tractor Club in Stark, Kansas; Grant Community Club; American Legion in Erie, Kansas and a member of the Stark Methodist Church. He was a collector of Indian artifacts, enjoyed fishing and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Lee Ard; and one sister, Deborah Chaney.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Ard of the home; three sons, Eric Ard of Neodesha, Kansas; Garry Ard of Flagstaff, Arizona; and Bryan Ard of Chanute, Kansas; one daughter, Darla Henderson and husband Eddie of Humboldt, Kansas; three stepdaughters, Sheri Harbaugh and husband Scott of Lakewood, Colorado; Shelly Haseldon and husband Tim of Okeechobee, Florida; Stacey Schifferdecker and husband David of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers, Jon Ard and wife Georgia of Phoenix, Arizona; Stephen Ard of Stark, Kansas; one sister, Delores Wright and husband Raymond of Cassville, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one step-great granddaughter; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday evening, February 25, 2014, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Moran, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Darrell Ard Memorial Fund.
Private family burial will be held at a later date.
