Obituary of Marjorie H. Hamm

Marjorie H. Hamm, age 73, of Colony, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at her home. Margie was born on June 19, 1935 at Jacksonville, Illinois, the daughter of Leonard and Marie (Rickey) Johnson. She grew up in the Joplin area, attending school at Oakland Village. She lived in the Joplin area until moving to Iola, Kansas in 1963. After completing cosmetology school in 1963 she worked as a beautician in Gas and Iola until 1984. Margie also worked as a cook for the Allen County Jail for five years. On December 10, 1987 she married Dean Hamm at Girard, Kansas. She was a member of the Colony Christian Church. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and cooking, but fishing was her second favorite activity to spending time with her grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Marie Johnson; and one brother, Mickey Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Dean Hamm of the home; two sons, Dean Etris and wife Cindy of Joplin, Missouri; Dustin Hamm of Chanute, Kansas; three daughters, Angela George and husband Mike of Humboldt, Kansas; Terri Jackman and husband Greg of Colony, Kansas; Missy Strickler and husband Jeff of Colony, Kansas; her Aunt Leotta Patterson of Joplin, Missouri; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday October 23, 2008 at the Colony Christian Church. Interment will follow in the Colony Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home in Colony from 3:00-8:00 PM Wednesday.
