Obituary of Cleo Dorothy Couch

Cleo Dorothy Couch, age 85, of Garnett, Kansas, died on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kansas. She was born on March 27, 1924, in Depew, Oklahoma, the daughter of John and Myrtle (Craft) Smith. She grew up in Oklahoma, later moving to California. Cleo married Bill Hines in 1940, and they later divorced. This union was blessed with one daughter, Delores J. Hines Beddo. She later married Ardis B. Couch, and they later divorced. This union was blessed with one son, Ardis B. Couch II. Cleo worked in electronics for many years in California. In the late 1960's she returned to Kansas, living in Gardner. She attended cosmetology school in Kansas City and became a beautician. She opened and operated her own shop for over 20 years in Garnett. She taught Sunday School and was very much into her religion. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and taking care of her children and grandchildren. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrtle Smith; her daughter, Delores J. Beddo; her son, Ardis B. Couch, II; her daughter-in-law Diane Couch; her grandson, Donal Beddo; three brothers, Archie Smith, George Wiley Smith, Ralph Smith; and four sisters, Irene Roper, Carrie Smith, Ladena Smith, and Hazel Smith. She is survived by her grandchildren, Donna Hermreck and husband Leon of Garnett, Kansas; Dana Hardman and husband David of Ottawa, Kansas; Dawn Leadbetter and husband Darin of Ottawa, Kansas; Duane Beddo and wife Shea of Harrisonville, Missouri; Jackie Beddo of Princeton, Kansas; Ardis B. Couch, III and wife Julie of Ottawa, Kansas; and Stewart Couch; Sixteen great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren, and three more on the way; two brothers, Ray Smith of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Wayne Smith of Sylmar, California. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Family will be present to greet friends at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning prior to the funeral service. She will lie in state from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home.
