Obituary of Mary Alice Hintz
Mary "Alice" Hintz, age 87, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away, Friday, August 15, 2008 at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Richmond, Kansas.
She was born December 4, 1920 at Bronson, Kansas, the daughter of Sidney Niles and Virginia (Murphy) Tefft.
Alice married Fred Hintz on December 21, 1938. This union was blessed with one daughter, Mary. She graduated from Burlington High School, Burlington, Kansas in 1938. Mary retired from Southwestern Bell after 30 years of service. After retiring from the phone company, she earned her C.N.A. license in 1981, working in the nursery at the Anderson County Hospital.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Garnett, Kansas; Garnett Senior Center, Welda Quilting Club, Helping Hand Club, Pink Lady, Welda friendship Club, Meals on Wheels, Osawatomie Craft and Hobby Club, loved playing cards at Welda, Garnett, Bush City, La Harpe, and Harris, Kansas. Her most favorite pastime was spending time with her granddaughters and that she was recognized for was a volunteer for decorating the Garnett Senior Center with, Mackayla, her great granddaughter as her helper.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred Hintz on July 29, 1966; her daughter, Mary Wells on March 7, 2007 and son-in-law, Charles Wells on December 15, 2006; and two grandsons, Scott Wells in 1979 and Steve Wells in 1989; four brothers, Milford Tefft and Melvin Tefft killed within two weeks of each other in WWII; Marvin Tefft and William Tefft; and a sister, Nettie Coe.
Alice is survived by her granddaughter, Cynthia S. Wells and her great granddaughter, Mackayla Wells both of Garnett, Kansas; stepdaughter, Sherry Hintz of Ottawa, Kansas and four nephews, David Coe and Bill Tefft of Topeka, Kansas; Leonard Coe, Edward Coe; extended family friends, Lowana Minckley of Colony, Kansas and Linda Holstein of Garnett, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett, with burial to follow in the Welda Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friend's from 7:00 to 8:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.
