Today Lou was remembering a
dance in Greeley and a large
thermos that the guys kept
mixing a drink. He said Gertie said you need to give me the recipe. The guys all
laughed and said it was always different. He will
always remember Gertie and Bill that night.

The things I remember most about Aunt Gertie were her warm hugs, her sincere smile and that wonderful unique voice! Although we seldom saw her, I have thought of her often through the years. Nobody on the planet could ever hug you like Aunt Gertie!

Aunt Gertie and Uncle Bill were simply among the best. It's really difficult to speak of one without mentioning the other.
The memories abound and a smile crosses my lips with each one...
Back in 1966 I vividly recall Uncle Bill and my Dad(Jim Pembrook) attempting to perfect the "Art of Homebrew" out at the farm. The first batch exploded. Naturally, the two where spared no indignity, as both Aunt Gertie and my Mom, "Margie" "(Aunt Gertie's little sister)had the good fortune to witness the two running out of the cellar, drenched in homebrew. This story was recanted MANY times over MANY years. Aunt Gertie and Mom always found it funny to the point of tears, while Uncle Bill and Dad would sit back, grin quietly, look down at the floor, and shake their heads...as though STILL trying to figure out what the heck went wrong that day!
I will always remember Aunt Gertie and Uncle Bill for raising such a nice family and welcoming my family into theirs, especially during the summer of 1966; I will always remember Carolyn and Birdie picking me up for a Lime-Aid and treating me like a kid sister. I should probably thank Aunt Gertie for MAKING them come get me(ha,ha).I will always remember the Sunday meals at the farm and what a "great" cook Aunt Gertie was. I will always remember Aunt Gertie and Ernie(my younger brother) jitter-bugging while my youngest brother T.J. played the guitar and sang. I will always remember the way Aunt Gertie said "Margie"(Margee).
I will always remember her laugh and the fact that if it weren't for the Maloney side of the family, I would have missed out on my stubborn streak, which has seen me through some pretty tough times!!!

Another passing of yet another mom in 2008.........Gertie will not be forgotten, her best attributes will be seen daily in her children, grandchildren & extended family. She will live on in her family and friends, the lessons she taught us & the example she set. I will never forget her, especially her smile & her tenacity of life. She gave & gave & gave, her smile at Golden Heights while my mom was there helped me thru some difficult days, she would look at me like "you can do it girl, hang in there". I hope she is very happy where she is, with her husband again. I will never forget some of the stories the family has told me & the laughs they gave me. Hang in there all of you, the days will get better.

I always enjoyed playing cards with Gertie. She was always so pleasant and fun. I know Dorothy and her are enjoying a game of pitch as we speak. God bless you all.
