Ivone J. Penny Christy, age 77, of Garnett, Kansas, formerly of Overland Park, passed away at Olathe Medical Center on Thursday, July 3, 2008. She was born June 7, 1931, in Kansas City, Kansas to Boyd Montgomery Woods and Nanny Maude (Radar) Woods. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Howard C. Christy in Kansas City, Kansas on September 8, 1956. In 1960, Howard and Penny moved to Overland Park, KS. In 1990, they retired to Garnett, KS. She enjoyed spending time traveling, camping, fishing, sitting on the beach, collecting tea pots, canning, flea markets, sitting on her porch and spending time with her family. Howard and Penny were Winter Texans, spending each winter in South Texas in their trailer. Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, on May 14, 2008, her parents, two brothers, five sisters, and two daughters, Marcia Morrison, and Brenda Cecil. She is survived by two daughters, Kellie Hendrix, and her husband, Michael, of Overland Park, Kansas; Jana Manning, of Prairie Village, Kansas; two sons, Miles and Mark Cecil, of Kansas City, Kansas; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2008, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Garnett Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, and sent in care of the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Olathe Medical Center for their help and support.
