Obituary of Stanley C. Bell

Stanley Carroll Bell, age 84, of Garnett, Kansas, died on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett, Kansas. Stanley was born on May 9, 1924, in Garnett, Kansas, to Floyd and Thelma (Stanley) Bell. Stanley lived in Garnett until May of 1943 when he was drafted into the Navy to serve in World War II. He served in the United States Navy for three years from 1943 to 1946. He married Nita Morris on April 15, 1942, at the Osage County Courthouse in Lyndon, Kansas. They have shared a full life together, and this union was blessed with one daughter. A devoted husband, Stanley and Nita were able to experience their 66th Wedding Anniversary this past April. Stanley had a passion for fishing and hunting. He spent many hours fishing on creek banks for catfish and hunting quail and pheasant in western Kansas. Stanley was also a skilled craftsman. He spent a great deal of time in the shop reupholstering furniture and making furniture for his family and friends. His furniture will be cherished forever. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Thelma; one sister, Velma Drybread; and infant son, Mitchell Lee Bell. Stanley will be lovingly remembered by his family members who survive him; wife Nita Bell of Garnett, Kansas; one daughter, Jody Cole and husband Craig of Garnett, Kansas; and five grandchildren, Travis Rockers, Adam Rockers, Luke Rockers, Sophia Cole and Dylan Cole. Stanley was known for his love of life, wonderful sense of humor, and his love and compassion for others. Stanley ~ you are gone from this place, but never forgotten. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Garnett Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas. Family will greet friends at a visitation from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2008, at the funeral home in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church and left in care of the funeral home. Mr. Bell will lie in state from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2008, at the funeral home in Garnett.
