Obituary of Jimmy Lloyd Harbin

Jimmy Lloyd Harbin, age 73, of Garnett, Kansas passed away May 16, 2009 at his home. He was born June 8, 1935 at Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of Lloyd Cleo and Margaret Susanna (Bauman) Harbin. Jim grew up in Detroit, Michigan, graduating from high school there. He began his career as a musician playing the guitar at the age of 13. One of his first professional gigs was with the Gospel group the Hymn Timers. He would later work with Guy Mitchell, Eddie Arnold, and other well known acts of the time. He moved to Southern California in the 1960's. It was there he did a lot of studio recordings with different acts. After 37 years in the music business he moved to Montana in 1985. On November 29, 1986 Jim married Norma Reed at Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. This union was blessed with two sons. Jim loved his time in Montana before the family moved to Garnett in 1994. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, attending the church at Ottawa, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by his wife, Norma, of the home; his sons, Russell Norman Harbin and his wife, Heather, of Polson, Montana, and Lloyd Harbin of Garnett, Kansas; and his three grandchildren, Reed Norman Harbin, Riley Mason Harbin, and Matty Harbin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. Interment will follow in the Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.
