Billy G. McGie, age 75, of Wittmann, Arizona, died May 9, 2008 at Peoria, Arizona. He was born on December 27, 1932, at Iola, Kansas, the son of William W. and Jewell A. (Pearman) McGie. He graduated from the Iola High School with the Class of 1950. He worked for Haliburton in oil fields around Iola. He later worked for the ASCS Office in Iola. He married Roberta Curtis, five children were born to this union, and they later divorced. Billy served in the National Guard, later being transferred to the Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Major after 22 years of service. He married Janice (Shaw) McGie on April 3, 1970 at Paola, Kansas; one son was born to this union. In 1980 they moved to Branson where he was a motel assistant manager until retiring in 1990. They moved to the Phoenix area in 1994. Billy enjoyed woodworking in his retirement years. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jewell McGie and a step-son, Russell S. Schwegman. He is survived by his wife, Janice McGie of Wittmann, Arizona; three sons, Stephen E. McGie of Gardner, Kansas; Michael C. McGie of Iola, Kansas; Jerold A. McGie of Forsyth, Missouri; three daughters, Debra L. Reeder of Iola, Kansas; Deanna L. Helms of Iola, Kansas; Deidra L. Johnson of Iola, Kansas; two step sons, William L. Schwegman of Glendale, Arizona, and Daniel D. Coleman of Peoria, Arizona; one brother, Wallace W. McGie of Topeka, Kansas; three sisters, Barbara J. Kleier of Wellsville, Kansas, Mary J. Lear of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Karen L. Hardesty of Fort Scott, Kansas; twenty-seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service at Garnett, KS. Burial to follow at the Garnett Cemetery, Garnett, KS.
