Obituary of Albert Marshall Potter

Albert M. Potter, age 80, of Garnett, died, Monday, March 24, 2008 at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett, Kansas. He was born on September 4, 1927, on a farm near Mapleton, Kansas, the son of Loran F. and Blanche M. (Pettit) Potter. Albert lived on the family farm until he was 16, moving to Garnett where he worked for his brother Kenneth as a lime hauler. He then met and fell in love with Beverly Bertina Ashburn. They were married on June 21, 1947 at Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with five children, Vicky, Terry, Eddy, Marsha, and Sandy. Over the 60+ years he lived in this town, he left behind several lasting contributions. Today, many of them still stand, including many of the houses around town, the sidewalks that you walk on, driveways you park your cars on, toadstools at the north lake, and the entrance signs at the north and south parts of town. He also owned Grandpas Candy store in the Hotel Reichart for many years which brought enjoyment to both you and old just alike. Albert was a member of the First Christian Church of Garnett. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Potter in 2003; his granddaughter, Debbie Kay Lytle in 1988; two sisters, Lenora and Eva; and five brothers, infant, Wilmer, Amos, Kenneth, and Charles. Survivors include two sons, Terry Joe Potter of Garnett, Kansas and Eddie Albert Potter of Overland Park, Kansas; three daughters, Vicky Lee Lytle and husband Butch of Colony, Kansas; Marsha Kay Dulin and husband Danny of Garnett, Kansas; Sandy Sue Peine and husband Robert of Princeton, Kansas; two sisters, Nellie Hefton of Port Angeles, Washington and Vinita Robb of Uniontown, Kansas; Eight grandchildren, Tracy, Brittany, Ashley, Brandon, Jeremy, Jeff, Jody and John; Eleven great grandchildren, Amanda, Bud, Hunter, Madison, Juzic, Nathan Bucket Dulin, Manie, Laura, Emily, Abby and Hanna; and one Great Great Granddaughter. Makenna. Albert was many things to many people. He may not have been rich with material things, but he was rich with love and respect by all. He will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church, Garnett. Burial to follow at the Garnett Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Albert Potter Memorial which will be designated at a later date. The family will be present to greet friends on Thursday evening, March 27, 2008 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett.
