Obituary of Julia Marie Barnett

Julia Marie McAdam Barnett of Moran was born east of Bayard, KS on Aug. 10, 1919 and was the daughter of Andy and Bessie Schuessler McAdam. At an early age she with her family moved to the old farmstead of her Grandfather Schuessler located one mile west of Lone Elm, KS. where she grew to womanhood. She was graduated from Lone Elm High School in 1937 and received her Life Certificate for teaching from Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg, KS in 1939. She furthered her education from Pittsburg State and the University of Texas at Austin, TX. Her teaching career included rural schools in Anderson and Allen County and the Moran and Iola schools. On July 29, 1945, she was married to Wayne Barnett at the Presbyterian Church in Lone Elm. They made their home in Lone Elm until they purchased Moran Truck Line in 1947 and moved to Moran, Kansas. Julia and Wayne operated the truck line until 1984 when they retired. Julia was a member of the Moran Presbyterian Church and was very active with church work including teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School leader, and Sunday school superintendent. She was also an active member of the Jones Hardy American Legion Auxiliary Post 385 in Moran and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW in LaHarpe. Her husband Wayne preceded her in death November 7, 1996. She is survived by one daughter Beth Ann Hatch and husband Gary of Sheboygan, WI and one son Mark W. Barnett and wife Kelli of Joplin, MO. She is further survived by grandsons, James, Matthew, and John Hatch, and Josh Herrmann, granddaughters, Kelci McVey, Jaci and Katie Barnett, great- grandchildren, Aidan, Emma and Ian Hatch, Jarrett Herrmann, Keaton Herrmann, and Maggie McVey. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, John and George McAdam, her sister Marguerite Works, and her great-grandson Conner Hatch. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2008, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Moran, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Moran Cemetery in Moran, Kansas. Family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the funeral home in Moran. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 385, Moran, Kansas, or to the Alzheimers Association.
