Obituary of Nelda Darlene Tawney
Nelda Darlene Tawney was born March 12, 1932, in Ogallah, Kansas to William O. and Ellen Abigail Hager. She passed away in Olathe, Kansas on January 30, 2008 at the age seventy-five.
As a child, Nelda attended Ogallah Grade School in Ogallah, KS. She moved with her family to Garnett in 1940 where her family harvested wheat. She later attended school in Garnett.
On March 10, 1949, Nelda married Lee A. Tawney in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Throughout their marriage Lee and Nelda lived in the Princeton Garnett area where Lee farmed and built homes with his brothers. Their union was blessed with five children.
Nelda earned a CMA license upon the death of her husband and worked in the nursing field for several years. She worked in various restaurants, showcasing her love of cooking, Nelda eventually went to work for Allied Signal, finally retiring after seventeen years. Nelda was always caring for others whether it was taking care of a child or cooking for her little people (her loving term for the senior citizens that she nurtured). Her hobbies included needlework, antiquing and traveling with friends. Nelda never really seemed to retire as she was truly a people
person and loved to cook for anyone who had an appetite. She was member of the Garnett Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her children: Larry Tawney and wife, Christine of Manhattan, Wayne Tawney and wife, Sandy of Osawatomie, Marsha Newbanks and husband Gerald of Olathe Darrold Tawney and Vena Romig of Garnett, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Lee, and baby daughter, Marilynn, brother, Dwaine Hager, brother, Darrold Hager, sister, Marilyn Winters and parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett, Kansas. Family will be present to greet friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Princeton Cemetery in Princeton, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Assembly of God Church.
