Obituary of Roy William Barnhart

Roy William Barnhart, age 89, of Harris, Kansas, passed away at his home on January 24, 2008. He was born November 27, 1918, near Sawyer, Kansas, the youngest child of Lee and Effie (Wray) Barnhart. His mother passed away when he was only twelve days old, he was then cared for by a neighbor and near relatives until his father married Lizzie (Crist) in 1921. As a young child he lived in the states of Kansas, Colorado and California, growing to manhood near Modesto, California. He was baptized into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church on November 12, 1941. As a young man he moved to Covington, Ohio. On January 29, 1944 Roy married Ola Brubaker at Westphalia, Kansas. They made their home in Ohio until moving their family of four children to Westphalia, Kansas in 1951. Three more children joined their family in Kansas. Roy was a farmer and carpenter until retiring and moving to Harris in 1990. After his retirement Roy continued his interest in gardening. In the last year of his life Roy was cared for in his home by his daughter, Linda. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Barnhart on January 9, 2004; his parents, Lee and Effie Barnhart; his stepmother, Lizzie Barnhart; three sisters Virgie Wolf, Evelyn Wolf, and Orpha Warner; and one grandson Justin Barnhart. Roy is survived by his daughters, Carol Brubaker and companion Dean of West Alexandria, Ohio; Erma Hirt and companion David of Westphalia, Kansas; Ellen Metzger and companion Mark of Camden, Ohio; Richard Barnhart and companion Linda of Camden, Ohio; Linda Barnhart of Harris, Kansas; Janet Kellerman and companion Terry of Garnett, Kansas; and Daniel Barnhart and companion Judy of Westphalia, Kansas; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
