Obituary of Treva Maetta Turner
Treva M. Turner, age 92, of Colony, Kansas died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care in Garnett, Kansas.
Treva was born January 16, 1916 in Anderson County, Kansas, the oldest daughter of Ora D. & Virgie H. (Mathews) Strickler. She attended Prairie Union School near Colony and graduated from Colony High School in 1935.
She married Herbert W. Turner on June 10, 1936 at Colony, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children, Betty and Max.
Treva was a devoted housewife and mother. She spent her adult life in service to her community as a cook at the school and Kelleys caf. She also served as janitor of the First United Methodist Church in Colony.
She was a loyal member of the Colony First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She spent her spare time enjoying family and friends and was proud of her embroidery work.
Treva was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Herbert W. Turner on May 15, 1980.
She is survived by her children, Betty J. Lybarger, and her husband, Dale of Garnett, Kansas; W. Max Turner, and his wife, Beth Ann of Iola, Kansas; her sister Opal (Strickler) Donaldson of Grapevine, Texas; her brother Wallace E. Strickler and his wife Delores of Colony, Kansas; four grandchildren, Christina Turner of Iola, Kansas; Janice & Charlie Epp of Mission, Kansas; Alan & Paula Lybarger of Overland Park, Kansas; David & Myra Lybarger of Garnett, Kansas; and six great-grandchildren, Jenny, Jason, Jackie, Amy, Katie and Nicholas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2008, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, Kansas, with Pastor John Sheehan officiating. Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday prior to the service time. Burial will follow at the Colony Cemetery, Colony, Kansas. Mrs. Turner will lie in state at the funeral home in Garnett from 8:00 AM 5:00 PM on Saturday and from 11:00 AM 5:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home in Colony.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Colony United Methodist Church or Anderson County Long Term Care.
